What do you say to a man
(my darling, my sweetheart)
who's seen too much?
(let me see those eyes)

I like you
(for all you're a thief)
I love you
(for all you're a noble)

If only I'd known half the secrets of your Lioness
(young lion, see your companion)
were held in that book
(a scientific journal)
I'd have worked harder to translate it

Come the war
(see your companion for what she really is)
Come the avarice
(this ancient riverbed)
Come the favour of the gods to the man who kills her!

Better you die and become a legend
(legends force no one to change)
So knock me down, tear me up
(he would have killed you but you didn't kill him).

The kid's had a rough life,
(you frighten them, you are too new)
supposing the things he says in his sleep ain't no lie
(she thought he was asleep).

A fleeting beating of hearts
(what were the words I meant to say before you left?)
I wouldn't have time to sleep
(I love you).

I retain my soul, faithful
(surely I would know if it was gone)
Found poetry, written with the sources given by my friend Piper.
